Presentation
:
It consists of a suite of mathematical models relating to process
engineering of plant and machinery in cement plants.
Basis:
We developed mathematical models using Mathcad® engine at the background.
We used live-math technique of Mathcad. All the mathematical formulations are presented in normal
mathematical notations and the model calculation updates itself
for any changes effected in the input parameters. The model also forms the
technical basis for system simulation using Mathconnex.
Operating
state:
The models represent steady state conditions of any process in the
plant. Dynamic or time dependent conditions are beyond the purview
of these models.
Methodology:
Calculations are elaborated in a manner that they develop themselves
in self-documentation of methodology as adopted for individual solutions.
Models present all the calculations using normal mathematical notations
and still use the power of software programme.
Usages of the models are design centric, investigative, educative
and instructive.
Approach:
Plant design involves carrying out many individual sets of calculations.
However, from the cement plant operator’s point of view, this
area has mostly been ignored. Investigation and reports, without
basic knowledge or understanding of the methodology lack conviction.
Due to varied nature and multiplicity and complexity of calculations
involving many parameters it’s not practical to take up such
calculations manually by the plant engineers. Engineers mostly have
to deal with software programmes as black boxes, which give out
results or data for certain given inputs –more like magic
Mathcement® addresses these issues most effectively.
Advantages:
Mathcement® runs on the back of Mathcad® engine (from Mathsoft
Engineering and Education Inc.) It provides live mathematical worksheets
where we use standard mathematical notations instead of using high
level programming language.
Standard mathematical notations in formulae, unlike in spreadsheet
applications, make it easy for engineers and scientists to read
and understand the models. Unlike in a spreadsheet, in case of Mathcement®,
text and formulae and graphics intermingle like on paper, the most
natural medium of expression. As mathematical models, these are
also powerful calculation programmes.
They display all explanatory steps and formula, with which users
can interact and experiment freely. The programme restores
itself to its original state at the end of the session.
